Summary

The paper shows how non-destructive measurement methods based on temperature can be used in the context of short-term procedures for service life calculation. The procedure is presented using the example of normalized carbon steel grade C45E and the SteBLife method.

SteBLife opens up the possibility of providing significantly more information on the alternating deformation behavior for a trend-Wöhler curve without statistical validation with only a few tests than is possible with conventional testing. In this way, trend-Wöhler curves can be calculated with 1 to 5 specimens and test times of max. 2 days, which, as in the case of SteBLifemsb, can also provide information on the probability of failure.

The method has now been applied to various unalloyed and low-alloyed steels in different heat treatment states and validated using the conventional approach.
