If you are looking to train your competence in using „the world’s lingua franca“, you have come to the right place: be it on your own or in groups, online or face-to-face.

The programme of the department International Relations and Languages is aimed at all students, lecturers and staff at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences who would like to refresh or further develop their English competence.

We currently do not offer presessional courses or exam-preparation courses (eg. TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS).

The programme for the winter semester 2026/27 is under construction.

Course Description: Develop fluency and confidence through discussions based on a range of media, including articles, videos, podcasts and current topics. Regular feedback on vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation will help you communicate more naturally, accurately and spontaneously.

Workshop description

A series of workshops designed to introduce participants to the four "key concepts" of academic English. Participants will have opportunities to produce relevant samples of academic texts and receive feedback on these.

Workshop - Pronunciation - How English Sounds WS 26/27

 

Dates: Wednesday the 4th and 11th Nov. (Possiblity of continuation if there is enough interest)

Time: 16:00 - 17:00

Location: Kaiserslautern - Room to be announced

REGISTRATION: by 28.10.2026

Workshop Description: A practical workshop geared at helping participants feel more confident in their English pronunciation. Together, we will examine and practice components of English pronunciation, such as reductions (e.g. 'gonna'), unstressed vowels (e.g. the schwa), connected speech and linking words (e.g. Where did you go? / Where'd-ya-go?), vowel contrasts (e.g. full/fool), etc.

Workshop - How English Works WS 26/27

 

Dates: Tuesday the 9th and 16th February 2027 (possiblity of continuation if there is enough interest)

Time: 14:00 - 15:00

Location: Kaiserslautern - Room to be announced

REGISTRATION: by 01.02.2027

Workshop Description: "Though I thought it would be tough, I got through it with your thorough support." Why is English spelling and pronunciation so bizarre?! Where does English come from? Why is the word 'gift' good in English and bad in German?

These questions and more are the kinds of topics we'll look at in this workshop on the English language. You will have the opportunity to practice your spoken English with your peers and compare it to your native/spoken languages, whilst also learning about some of the history behind the language.

Students, staff and lecturers are encouraged to join to expand their English knowledge. B2 Level +.
