Resonance pulsator

The German Research Foundation (DFG) provides investment funds for the proportional (50%) financing of large-scale research equipment at universities within the framework of the funding program "Large-scale Research Equipment" according to Art.91b GG. The basis for this is the Implementation Agreement on Research Buildings, Large-Scale Facilities and National High-Performance Computing (AV-FGH), adopted by the Joint Science Conference.

The investment projects for university research must be characterized by special scientific quality and supraregional significance. The equipment must be used predominantly for research, i.e. the need for its procurement and use must be justified solely by its use in research. In addition, the equipment may also be used in teaching and/or clinical care. These areas are not considered in the assessment of necessity.

In 2021, within the framework of the large-scale research equipment program according to Art.91b, funds were approved for the procurement of a MIKROTRON type resonance pulsator from Russenbereger, including a 2D-DIC system and a video extensometer from LIMESS. The installation of the high frequency system took place in December 2021.

The system is currently used in the research projects Quantified evaluation of the influence of stress frequency on the fatigue behavior of unalloyed steels for implementation in resource-efficient service life prediction methods (DFG STA 1133/22-1) and Evaluation of the frequency influence on the fatigue behavior of unalloyed steels (BFI University of Kaiserslautern). Further projects are currently in application.
