Taster sessions for schoolgirls in the HS KL’s STEM MENTORING Program

The difficult matter of choosing a subject to study requires more than a short discussion. Therefore, the HS KL will offer several taster days, in which you can engage intensively  with the matter of choosing which course to study. You can choose from any of the STEM subjects among the courses we offer.

The offer is open to female, pre-university students who wish to gain an insight into the day-to-day life of a university student. However, it is also open to people who have already started their careers and are now considering pursuing a course of study. This is intended to facilitate the decision-making process and the entry into studying a STEM subject.

What do the STEM Mentoring Days offer?

  • Insight into day-to-day student life
  • Clarity on questions related to studying
  • An overview of the course content
  • The opportunity to get to know and try out new things
  • Preparation for the “Hochschule” learning environment
  • Exchange with students, professors, and assistants
  • Individual consultations on choosing a course to study
  • Supervised program

How does the STEM Mentoring Program work?

The next fixed “STEM Plus” program is offered in spring 2020.

You can choose to attend any of the days. However, we recommend that you attend at least two of the days, especially if you are deciding between courses that are offered at different campuses.

You can choose from the following activities:

  • Attending labs and lectures, campus tours
  • Workshops
  • Exchange with students on the topics of studying and choosing a career
  • Introduction to e-learning/Blended Learning
  • Advice on the on-campus degree courses or the dual study model “KOSMO”

The events will take place at the various university campuses, depending on the level of interest. Upon request, carpool schemes may be arranged.

You can register online. In order to raise awareness of the program, we would be grateful if you could bring a consent form for the use of images when you visit the university. Alternatively, you can also complete a registration form, which can also be sent by email.

Wie läuft das MINT Mentoring-Programm ab?

Das nächste Blockprogramm "MINT Plus"  wird erst im Herbst 2023  angeboten.

Die Besuchstage  sind frei wählbar. Empfehlenswert sind mindestens zwei Tage, besonders wenn Studiengänge an verschiedenen Hochschulstandorten gewählt werden.

Es können folgende Programmpunkte gewählt werden:

  • Labor- und Vorlesungsbesuche, Campusrundgänge
  • Workshops im MINT Bereich
  • Austausch zu Themen des Studiums und der Berufswahl mit Studierenden
  • Kennenlernen von E-Learning/Blended Learning
  • Beratung zu den Präsenzstudiengängen bzw. dem dualen Studienmodell "KOSMO"

Veranstaltungorte sind  je nach Interessenlage an den verschiedenen Standorte der Hochschule. Nach Absprache ist dafür auch die Einrichtung von Fahrgemeinschaften möglich.

Die Anmeldung ist online möglich. Damit wir das Programm noch etwas bekannter machen können, wäre es schön, wenn die Bildverwendung erlaubt wird und bei der Besuchstagen mitgebracht wird. Alternativ ist auch eine Anmeldung mit einem Formular möglich, dieses kann auch per Email zugesendet werden.

What does STEM stand for?

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In German, it is known as “MINT” (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik).

What is mentoring?

Mentoring is when a person (a mentor) with advanced knowledge passes on this knowledge to a less experienced person (a mentee).

We use these terms because the mentor will act as a contact person at the university for the mentee throughout the entire visit. However, you may stay in contact to answer any questions, even after the STEM Mentoring Days are over.

Was ist Mentoring ?

Mentoring bedeutet, dass eine Person (Mentorin oder Mentor) mit Wissensvorsprung,eben dieses Wissen an eine (noch) unerfahrene Person (Mentee) weitergibt.

Hier wird dieser Begriff verwendet, da während der gesamten Besuchszeit eine Ansprechperson für die Mentee vor Ort ist. Austausch und Kontakt zur Klärung von Fragen sind aber auch nach den MINT Mentoring Tagen möglich.
